Heather has been working with and training donkeys for the last 10 years. Two years ago, Heather participated in the very first "Great Burro Turnaround". This is a BLM-affiliated competition similar to the Extreme Mustang Makeover, where trainers are each given a randomly selected wild donkey and they have 100 days to tame the donkey and teach it as much as possible. At the end of the training time, there is a competition where the donkeys show everything they have learned and then are auctioned to the highest bidder. Heather and her donkey Daisy didn't place in 2014, but this year's donkey, Benji, took 4th overall in the competition. And, Heather got addicted to wild donkeys!
Heather uses a positive reinforcement (attraction) training technique which focuses on becoming "friends" with the donkey and building a solid trust relationship. Once trust is established, the donkey learns that pretty much all humans are trustworthy, fun, and worth working for.
